| Do you
like to sing? We would be happy to have you
visit us! Please join us at one of our weekly rehearsals at 7
p.m. on Tuesday nights in the Performing Arts Center at
Illinois
Central College in East Peoria, Illinois. Give us a
call and we'd be happy to have someone accompany you to a rehearsal
if you would like that. Or just stop by to watch or sing with
us!

What is the
process to become a member? You will need to attend at
least 4 out of 6 rehearsals and pass a vocal audition on a song
learned in that time without reading music. On your first
visit, one of our leaders will assign you to one of the four
barbershop voice parts (Lead, Bass, Tenor, or Baritone). You
will be given plenty of help to learn! In addition to being
assigned to an experienced singer in your voice part to help you,
you'll also get an audio CD containing your part as well as sheet
music. If you don't read music, that's OK...most of our
members learn from the CD. Your audition will be done
privately for our director and a few other leaders while singing
with someone from each of the other 3 voice parts. You'll be
given a membership application upon passing the audition. The
Heart of Illinois chorus is part of
Sweet Adelines International, a
world-wide non-profit organization of women singers...singing Divas!

website.
How much personal
time will it take?
In addition to weekly rehearsals throughout the year, there
are 2 annual shows in May and November. We also participate
in a Sweet Adelines regional competition in March or April each
year, and have about 2 Saturday retreats per year to focus on
preparing for that. We tend to perform in and around the
Peoria area about 2-4 times per year for local festivals, business
events, charitable events, as well as participating in Christmas and
arts festival events.
